The Initial Assessment
During the assessment we will discuss your Pilates aims, and your health questionnaire which enables us to understand any factors that may be relevant to your exercise. We will then conduct a posture, movement and joint assessment, and introduce you to the application of some key Pilates Principles by teaching you some fundamental Pilates exercises. You will receive hands-on guidance to ensure correct muscle activation, and will have ample opportunity to seek feedback and ask questions. It is a very personal session that is tailored to you and takes into account your prior exercise experience, level of body awareness and general level of health and fitness.
The assessment will enable us to understand you as a person so that we can help you exercise safely and effectively, with minimal risk of injury or pain. Injuries can occur during Pilates, as with all forms of exercise, particularly when exercises are performed with poor technique or when a specific exercise is inappropriate for the individual.
The assessment will help you understand whether you are applying the Pilates Principles correctly. You will therefore feel more confident when you attend a class for the first time, and by performing Pilates with good technique, your exercise will be based on a strong foundation so that you can develop your ability and results over time.
